Using Dental Credit for Cosmetic Dentistry

Dental services like tooth implants, oral surgeries, and cosmetic dentistry can cost thousands of dollars. If you are strapped for cash and need an important dental procedure, it could be beneficial to seek out some form of dental credit.

What Is Dental Credit?

Dental credit or dental financing is a financial arrangement that helps people cover the costs of procedures like cosmetic dentistry and several other services. It is a form of credit specifically designed for dental expenses that allows individuals to spread the cost of their dental care over time, making it easier to pay. Dental financing can be very beneficial for people facing unexpected or significant dental expenses that may not be fully covered by their insurance.

There are two types of dental financing:

  • In-House Financing: Some dental offices offer their own financing plans, allowing patients to make payments directly to the dental practice. Check with your local office to see if this is available to you.
  • Third-Party Financing: There are also third-party financing companies, such as CareCredit, LendingClub, and others, that specialize in providing credit and personal loans for dental healthcare.

How Does Dental Credit Work?

To use dental credit, you will need to apply for it through a dental office or with a third-party financing provider. The application process usually involves providing personal and financial information, such as your name, Social Security number, employer, and income. Approval is based on factors such as your credit history and income. Always research as many lenders as possible to compare personal loan rates and terms.

When approved, individuals are given a credit limit and may have a dental credit card. This represents the maximum amount they can borrow for dental expenses. Medical credit cards can only be used to pay for certain medical expenses. They don’t work for every procedure, and not all dental care providers accept them. Find out if your local dentist will accept medical credit cards before you apply and make sure that your upcoming dental procedure will be eligible for such an expense.

Repayment plans will vary and may include interest-free periods for a specific duration. The repayment terms can range from several months to a few years. For example, CareCredit offers dental credit cards with promotional periods that have 0% interest and can last somewhere between six to 24 months.
