What To Expect At A Cosmetic Dentist

While regular dentists are mainly concerned with keeping your teeth healthy, cosmetic dentists focus on improving the appearance of your smile. They offer a variety of different dental procedures, such as teeth whitening, veneers, teeth bondings, implants, and more.  At Brookside Dental Arts, we offer the best of both worlds with our full service dental healthcare.  Here is what to expect when you first visit our cosmetic dentist office:

1. Preparing For Your First Visit With a Cosmetic Dentist

Before coming in for your first visit at Brookside Dental, we would first like you to gather any relevant medical records and proof of insurance. Bring any x-rays you have taken with a previous dentist and a list of any medications you are currently taking. To save you time, check out our new patient form available online so you can fill them out before you arrive. Additionally, think about any questions or concerns you might have before going in for your initial consultation.

2. Consultation With Your Cosmetic Dentist

During your first appointment with your cosmetic dentist, we’ll talk about your concerns and goals for improving your smile. Normally, treatment can begin on the same day as your consultation at Brookside Dental so you can save an extra trip to our office. Some medical procedures may require a follow-up appointment to receive treatment on another day. During this initial visit, the dentist will review your medical history, including medication and previous x-rays that you may have brought with you.

3. Your Cosmetic Dentist Will Examine Your Teeth

The dentist will perform his or her own full examination of your teeth to evaluate your dental health. Your cosmetic dentist will use x-rays or digital imaging to assess your underlying tooth structure and will examine your bite in search of any signs of damage and decay.

4. Forming a Treatment Plan

Once you have concluded your first visit, your cosmetic dentist will be ready to discuss your potential options. The dentist will form a personalized treatment plan and likely will schedule a follow-up appointment if you wish to proceed.

5. Preparation

Depending on your chosen procedure, your cosmetic dentist may need to prepare your teeth. When preparing for veneers, which would take multiple visits, your first appointment will require cleaning of the treatment area.

The cosmetic dentist will also need to numb the area, and use a dental drill to remove the layer of enamel on your teeth that is necessary for later placing the veneer. Dental impressions, or molds of your teeth are also completed and sent to a lab for the creation of your veneers. In the meantime, you will have temporary veneers applied.
